2018 New Zealand Favourite Plant results

The 2018 New Zealand Conservation Network Favourite Plant election concluded on 30 November 30. A total of 55 species were voted for and, for the first time, there were three serious contenders battling it out for the title. The top three challengers garnered a whopping 72% of the total vote, creating a battle with numerous lead changes that saw a new winner. For the first time since the vote started in 2002, an orchid has taken it out!!!

2. Mingimingi, shrubby tororaro, wiggywig (Muehlenbeckia astonii)

3. Ramarama (Lophomyrtus bullata)

4. Ongaonga, tree nettle (Urtica ferox)

5. Kotukutuku, tree fuchsia (Fuchsia excorticata)

6. Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium var. incanum)

7. Pink broom (Carmichaelia carmichaeliae)

8. Kohekohe, New Zealand mahogany (Dysoxylum spectabile)

9. Raupo-Taranga, Poor Knights lily (Xeronema callistemon f. bracteosa)

10. Matagouri (Discaria toumatou)
